CLC attorney and Certified Juvenile/Child Welfare Law Specialist Sarah Oliver has been published in the Fall 2013 issue of Children's Legal Rights Journal. Oliver's article, "Adapting to the Modern Family: Recognizing the Psychological Parent in Child Welfare Proceedings,"provides insight into the complexities of today's families and explores the legal challenges that arise when courts don't acknowledge a child's "psychological parent" as the legal guardian. Oliver also discusses the rights of caregivers, the growing number of non-traditional families, a hypothetical case demonstrating how a psychological parent would be treated under current child welfare laws in California, and how California courts have worked to protect relationships between children and psychological parents.
